Motorcycle lessons.

Driving a motorcycle is very cool according to many people.

Besides that the motorcycle comes in very handy in everyday busy traffic. It’s a good way of transport, for example you don’t have to stand still in a traffic jam.

But it all starts with a good education on your motorcycle. Whatever kind of motorcycle you are planning on driving, in whatever condition, a good education of motor skills is an investment for life!

To make you able to enjoy all that it is important not to drive only with your heart but also with your head!

Seeing and being seen, that is what it’s all about.

From the 19th of January 2013 there are new regulations for getting your motorcycle driving licence. They mean that there are now 3 categories for the A-licence.

A1- a motorcycle with no more than a cylinder volume of 125cc and a capacity of 11kW

Minimum age for exam: 18

A2- no more capacity than 35 kW

Minimum age for exam: 20 (from 2014)

A-no limitations

When you already have A1 or A2 the minimum age is: 22

If you want to do A right away you have to be at least 24 years old.

To get your motor cycle licence you have to do 3 exams:

Theory

Controlling the vehicle

Driving in traffic

To study theory you can buy a theory box.

The box holds a book and a code which gives you access to 15 hours of training online. You can work on this independently.

I you don’t have a car driving licence yet, you first have to get your theory certificate before being allowed on the road with a motorcycle.

If you already have a car driving licence then you have to get your theory before you do the exam on the road.

For the special skills exam (AVB) you will have to learn and perform 12 exercises.

These are not just tricks you have to learn, but techniques that you also need when driving in traffic.

The exercises are divided into 4 groups:

Walking with your motorcycle

Slow exercises

Fast exercises

Breaking exercises

During the exam you will have to do a total of 7 exercises and a minimum of 5 have to be marked sufficiently.

You are not allowed to have 2 insufficient marks in one group.

For the exercises of the AVB exam we will drive to a quiet place where you will have ample space and quiet to learn all the different exercises. You also get some road experience this way and the opportunity to use the techniques in traffic.

For the road driving exam (AVD) you obviously go on the road with your motor cycle and the examiner and the instructor will follow you by car. The following things will be monitored; your way of watching, your position on the road and how you behave towards other travellers.

Next to the common Motorcycle instruction course, your instructor has done an extensive training course of 7 days with the KNMV and he up-dates that yearly. The instructor will follow you on his motorcycle during lessons.

You will drive a Honda CBF 500, a so called ‘naked bike’. (category A)

The bikes have ABS and are very manoeuvrable and manageable, user friendly as we would say.

For the lighter category A1 we have a KTM Duke, 125cc, 11kW, with ABS

For more information look on the KTM Duke page

From 2014 on you can take driving lessons in the middle category A2 from age 20.

Motorcycle driving lessons take 2 hours because from experience we know that it takes a little time to get used to sitting on the bike, and you will learn quicker this way.

Your instructor will take care to vary the activities so it will never be boring!

Your process of progress will be updated onto your instruction card which you can watch online through your log-in code.

You can also plan your lessons with your code.

If you don’t own a helmet and/or protective clothing and boots, you can use our equipment at the driving school.

We will ask you to wear a helmet-cap because of hygiene for yourself and other students.

You can buy a motorcycle package,

it contains 5x (2hours)lessons, AVB exam and AVD exam.

We also have a 5- lesson (2 hours) package.

For all prices you can go to the prices page.

If you have any lessons left afterwards, you will get a refund. So you only pay for the lessons that you take.

And of course you can always pay for one lesson at the time.

A good motorcycle education is an investment for life!
